Niles Paul Injury: Redskins TE Out for Season
A gruesome first-quarter leg injury suffered by Niles Paul will end the veteran tight end’s season, Redskins coach Jay Gruden confirmed late Thursday night.
“It’s a huge loss for us, really”, Gruden said. “He’s a great player and a great leader”.
Paul left the field Thursday on a cart with an air cast wrapped around his leg. He was ruled out for the game with an ankle injury. Moses made one start during his rookie season with the Redskins a year ago.
“Right now I’m just happy to be out here and happy to compete, and I’m looking forward to playing in my first game since the injury”, Moses said. It’s a crushing blow to the Redskins, who are already concerned blocking TE Logan Paulsen may also miss the season with a toe injury.
In addition to serving as a go-to pass-catcher, Paul also ranks among the team’s leading special teams contributors.
During happier times earlier this week at training camp in Richmond, tight end Niles Paul, center, drives outside linebacker Adam Hayward, center left, and running back Silas Redd to the practice field.
Thursday’s game is the first of four preseason match-ups for the Redskins.
