Buhari gives service chiefs 3 months ultimatum to hunt down Boko Haram
President Muhammadu Buhari has given the new service chiefs an ultimatum of three months to put an end to insurgency.
President Buhari — a former army general — reiterated that the new military chiefs would be expected to work closely with neighbours Chad, Cameroon and Niger in fighting Boko Haram.
“You want to brace up and proceed to workforce up with different stakeholders to provide you with a properly coordinated joint effort which can deliver a desired end to these insurgencies inside three months”, Buhari informed the chiefs within the capital Abuja.
Mr. Dogara noted that the terrorist activities of Boko Haram, since 2009, have devastated the North-East region and resulted in the deaths of thousands of people, displacement of about five million people, and disruption of education as well as other social and economic activities. “In particular you must protect innocent civilian in the theatre of conflicts”.
It will be recalled that the President, on July 13, appointed the new service chiefs including a new National Security Adviser, NSA.
LEADERSHIP Friday learnt that the recent strings of deportation of Nigerian nationals who are IDPs in Cameroon, are not unconnected with security concerns and the country has begun the closure of such camps along its borders.
Speaking at the presentation by NASENI officials, Buhari said the agency must intensify its efforts to publicize inventions for the benefit of Nigerians.
Ohi Alegbe, Group General Manager, Public Affairs, NNPC said in a statement that the downsizing which saw the exit of all senior managers who were billed to retire between now and December 2016 is also a cost-saving measure.
The newly deployed platforms include the F-7Ni fighter aircraft, Mi-24/35 attack helicopters, Agusta 109 LUH, Supa Puma Combat Support helicopter and ATR-42 surveillance aircraft, which hitherto had been sent for scheduled maintenance. “It is also expected to enhance the capability of the Nigerian Armed Forces to fight in a more proactive and efficient manner”.
