Journey drummer jailed on rape charge
PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Journey drummer Deen Castronovo is facing a slew of charges against him following an arrest earlier this month.
The drummer for one of the most successful rock bands of the past 40 years has been jailed and faces a charge of rape.
The 50-year-old Castronovo was arrested June 14 in Salem, Oregon, on misdemeanor charges related to domestic violence. Marion County Circuit Judge Channing Bennett set bail at $20,000.
Following the investigation, Castronovo was accused of first-degree rape, second-degree sexual abuse and fourth-degree assault. He has been barred from having contact with the woman he allegedly assaulted. He’s expected to appear in court today.
In 2012, Castronovo was sentenced to 80 hours of community service and ordered to attend anger-management classes after a domestic violence episode.
Castronovo has been with Journey since 1998. The woman was Castronovo’s ex-girlfirend and he was charged with reckless endangerment, interfering with making a police report, second-degree criminal mischief and harassment. The band is scheduled to play in Provo, Utah, on July 4.
Following the June 14 incident, Journey announced that it would be using a fill-in drummer, Omar Hakim, on its forthcoming North American summer tour “due to Deen Castronovo’s pending issues”.
