Sheriff’s deputy shot; manhunt underway in Thonotosassa
As the search for a suspect in the early Thursday morning shooting of a Hillsborough County Sheriff’s deputy continues, Crime Stoppers is offering a reward in the case. Now, deputies are combing the area looking for the suspected gunman.
Ranney was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition.
It is unclear if the suspect was also shot, but deputies say he did get away. They are not sure if the suspect was shot. Information that leads to the identification of the person responsible for shooting Deputy Scott Ranney is worth up to $3,000 at this time.
A perimeter has been set up around Williams, Heshey, Greystone and Ripley roads.
Deputy Ranney was transported to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the left thigh, and is expected to be okay. “Right now we have a lot of resources and patrol personnel and detectives out there so it is safe, but then again if anybody sees anything unusual or suspicious contact the sheriff’s office immediately”.
Authorities in Florida say a manhunt is underway after a Tampa Bay-area sheriff’s deputy was shot. Ranney started his career as a detention deputy and transitioned into patrol in December 2014.
