Star Wars: Boba Fett Anthology movie pushed to 2020
A young Han Solo film sounds like a no-brainer to pull off, but it’s actually an extremely tricky maneuver.
Another thing fans have wondered about is exactly what age this younger take on Solo will be – but anyone anxious that he’d be a kid around the same age as Anakin in The Phantom Menace can rest easy, as Kennedy reveals that he’ll definitely be “in the high teens, low 20s”. But the concern is simple: why do this movie?
So it leaves us back to questioning well how young will he actually be?
“There’s got to be a reason for [the Han Solo film] to be”, states Kennedy.
On set together for first time since 1983’s Return of the Jedi, Ford and Mayhew provoked Star Wars nostalgia in even the most seasoned crew members.
Its still one of the stories that we absolutely want to tell.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, president of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy says that she was surprised by the reaction of the crew and cast members during the shooting of the “Chewie, we’re home” sequence in the trailer. (There’s also the recent revelation about his wife.). As if the hiring of Lord and Miller didn’t tune us into that already. If Ford is finally back as the character in the new trilogy, there’s potential to confuse the pop-culture hive-mind by introducing an apparent reboot: Han Solo – again – but this time played by a younger actor in a different story. His son Jon Kasdan wrote and directed The First Time, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, and In the Land of Women, as well as writing for the television series “Freaks and Geeks” and “Dawson’s Creek”. Would they ruin one of the best characters ever?
The Han Solo Anthology Film is slated for release on May 25, 2018 and will be executive produced by Kasdan and Jason McGatlin and co-produced by Will Allegra.
But that isn’t the only Anthology movie on the way.
Though the subject of Trank’s Anthology film was never officially announced, it’s been widely reported as a movie about everyone’s favorite anti-hero bounty hunter, Boba Fett.
The script is still in development, but EW says “fans should expect something along the lines of an adventure comedy”.
Kathleen Kennedy says the film is still moving forward, perhaps for a release around 2020. And how much of Solo’s story do they want to tell? There is a lot of innovative technology in and around what it is were doing with that story, so for a lot of reasons, we were comfortable postponing that.
