Olsen Twins Respond to Intern Lawsuit

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are being accused of profiting off the labor of kids in easily the week’s most ironic lawsuit.

With the buzz surrounding the actresses turned businesswomen’s fashion empire, the French banker and his wife, maintained their silence with only a company representative addressing the lawsuit.

The Olsen twins, 29, founded Dualstar, a licensing and manufacturing company, when they were 6, according to the Associated Press. Agreeing to work for a large company like that without pay is a risk and it will be interesting to see what the official agreement Lalani and other interns had with Dualstar.

While it’s the Olsens who are ultimately being held responsible, Lalani takes pains to say that Mary-Kate and Ashley themselves are “really nice people” who were “never mean to anyone” directly.

“I was doing the work of three interns”, she said of her internship, which offered no pay or academic credit.

The lead plaintiff, Shahista Lalani, who was a design intern for the Olsen’s fashion line The Row in 2012, accuses Dualstar of wage theft and claims various forms of mistreatment while working for the company.

In another instance, the complainant said that her stressful task of carrying “like 50 pounds worth of trench coats” in 100-degree weather and “sweating to death” had made her ill and let her to be hospitalized for dehydration. “The allegations in the complaint filed against Dualstar are groundless, and Dualstar will vigorously defend itself against plaintiff’s claims in court, not before the media”, Dualstar’s official statement said. This designer would also allegedly send Lalani to do things like “go get my Advil”. “I need this and this because I’m feeling sick and I have this meeting”, the former intern groused.

Wolf concluded by expressing confidence the lawsuit will be “dismissed in its entirety” as facts are considered.

Well, that’s pretty much what we’d expect them to say.

However, Lalani clarified that she did not work directly with the Mary Kate and Ashley during her internship.

Dualstar began when the Olsen twins were age six, rocketing to fame while starring in the sitcom Full House.
