August 15 nationwide event: Clear The Shelters
Cats will be available for $10 and dogs for $50. This one-day, nationwide event was initiated last year in the Dallas-Fort Worth area in an effort to place all sheltered pets into forever homes.
On Saturday, those shelters will offer free or reduced-cost adoptions or waive pet spaying and neutering fees. This influx stresses already crowded animal shelters. We attribute this to the booming economy and its tight housing market. They make good pets for people who live in apartment buildings and don’t want noise complaints for barking dogs.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase shelter animals and find them forever homes”, said Cherie Wachter, spokeswoman for theHumane Society of Broward County.”It’s going to be a great day for animals not only at our shelter but at shelters all over the country”. “We plan to adopt out as many animals as possible”.

Head down to your local shelter on August 15 to find your newest companion.
Sasha spent the last year and a half living in a pen after being found tied to a utility pole with her friend Benny after both dogs were abandoned by their owner.
All the animals in the project are housed at the Montclair Township Animal Shelter (MTAS), located on N. Willow Street, off of Walnut Street. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. (Other fees and participating shelter times may vary).
Those interested in adopting will have to fill out the usual paperwork required for all adoptions to ensure the safety of the animals. It receives no funding from government, national or statewide organizations. “Among the new administrators’ efforts is participation in the facilitated adoption program”. Some became homeless when their owners died.
