Sammy Davis Jr pendant among 160 auctioned Elvis Presley items
A special ceremony took place at his Graceland mansion during the annual Elvis Week celebrations.
The pendant sold for 32,000 dollars (£20,500).
Elvis Presley’s personal handgun and a jacket he wore in the 1964 film “Viva Las Vegas” are among 150 of his former possessions being auctioned. Bids were accepted online for weeks before the auction starts, reports the Associated Press.
The gun, writes Graceland Auctions, is a very rare piece of Elvis history. All of the items in the auction were from third-party collectors and none of the items included in the auction came from the treasured Graceland Archives.
The auction initially had 174 artefacts, but Ms Pickett said 14 were pulled to be “re-examined”.
“I thought, just as a lark, one of the satellite stations throughout Shelby County, Tipton or Fayette might have some”, Saks said.
“I think the auction had a very big range of (items) this time, where the last couple auctions had fewer lots and not as much variety”, said Marchese. “Elvis” is engraved on the barrel, and one side of the wooden grip sports Elvis’ emblem “TCB (Taking Care of Business)” and the lightning bolt. She was in Memphis for the presentation of the first Presley stamp in 1993. Estimate: $100,000-$125,000. Bidding is now at $3,000 as of this writing.
Also up for bids was a TCB diamond and gold necklace given to Elvis by fellow Las Vegas entertainer Sammy Davis Jr, which brought in $32,000, and a gold owl-shaped ring Elvis presented to a fan onstage that went for $32,500. Items such as a 1957 Elvis Presley doll still in the box sold for $5,000, half the expected $10,000 projection.
