Fenerbahce fund young Manchester United fan visit to Robin van Persie
One young Robin van Persie superfan was left grief-stricken when it was announced that his hero was set to leave Manchester United for Fenerbahce.
Van Persie completed his move from United to Fenerbahce last month on a transfer fee reported to be worth £4.7m.
A group of Fenerbahce fans started an online campaign to raise an amount of $2000 after seeing the video back in July, so that little Louis could meet his star.
The clip found its way to the Fenerbahce president Aziz Yildirim who then decided to invite the Diamond family to Turkey. The family accepted Yildirim’s invitation gratefully, and were treated like celebrities when the Fenerbahce TV Crew greeted them upon landing in Istanbul.
Not only that but Fenerbahce board member Ilhan Eksioglu has also paid for a five-day holiday for the whole Diamond family in Turkish holiday destination Antalya.
The 32-year-old Dutch striker joined the Istanbul-based outfit on a three-year deal after three years at Orld Trafford. The Holland global, however, did miss the return leg which Fenerbahce lost 3-0.
“We want to thank Fenerbahce and the president for making this happen”, The Guardian quotes Louis’s father Sam as saying.
The Diamonds will get the chance to finally meet Van Persie, and possibly watch him play for his new club when they face off against Eskisehirspor – though there is a doubt over his fitness.
