Volunteers lose offensive lineman Marcus Jackson
“You have to motivate people within the company to succeed, so that’s my job as the quarterback”.
All of that, it seems, hasn’t completely assuaged coach Butch Jones’ worries about the passing game. “That was a real focus this training camp”. “He is the No. 2 quarterback”. “We have made progress but not to where we’re game ready yet”.
“Quinten has gained some very valuable repetitions”. Tennessee’s last four opponents in 2014 failed to crack 30 points, but overall the Vols allowed 4.71 points per scoring opportunity – the worst rate in the SEC.
But, as is often the case, North’s injury was blown out of proportion and it appears he will miss minimal time.
“He’s definitely had a productive camp”, Dobbs said of Dormady. The severity of the injury is unknown at this time. Everyone talks about the skill guys, (how) they’re young but they’re talented. He has more reps than Jonesy. Last year, Jackson was the only Tennessee offensive lineman with any career starts.
Tennessee’s Marcus Jackson goes through a blocking drill…
Tennessee junior WR Marquez North is feared to be out for the entire 2015 season after going down with a non-contact injury during Wednesday’s practice, according to local radio host Brad Matthews.
Tennessee took a tough blow to its offensive line on Monday.
“I just want to represent that number and its legacy and build on that legacy”. After Dobbs took over the Vols jumped up to 5.53 yards per play.
Jones said between eight and 10 of those players should return on Saturday.
But it’s not just the receivers, or even incumbent quarterback Josh Dobbs, who hold the key to the success of the aerial attack, Jones said.
Panic increased when the Vols canceled their morning practice. “From running backs to receivers, it’s great to have that out there”.
During Jones’ previous two seasons on the job, Tennessee produced only 18 plays from scrimmage of 40-plus yards, the lowest total in the SEC. Jones also said defensive back Evan Berry is out about a week without mentioning the nature of his injury.
> Robertson (ankle sprain) is expected to return “in a couple days”, Jones said.
But Jones never has possessed this much talent. He wants to learn how to do it. “I feel like it makes us better. I see him getting better every day”.
