Geno Smith out 6-10 weeks after being punched in jaw
The New York Jets linebacker was released by his team on Wednesday morning after “sucker punching” teammate Geno Smith in a locker room bust-up.
Enemkpali released a statement through his agent in which he apologized to the Jets’ coaches, players and fans. The altercation took place in the locker room, not on the field or in public but what it comes down to either way is assault. “It had nothing to do with football”. “It’s something very childish, something that sixth graders could have talked about”. Smith reportedly told IK that he would pay him back for the ticket but he never got around to it. So, Enemkpali confronted Geno on Tuesday and the rest is shattered jaw history.
The Jets immediately cut Enemkpali afterward, with Bowles saying, “You don’t walk up to another man and punch him in the face”. The dispute that led to all of that was about $600 Enemkpali said Smith owed him, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN. “Whatever happened up at Jets Camp, I really can’t speak on”.
Smith will miss 6-10 weeks, Bowles said, “depending on the surgery they do and how he heals”. I deeply regret and apologise for my actions.
Smith took to Instagram vowing, “ILL BE BACK!”.
Geno Smith, New York Jets quarterback, is a suffering from a broken jaw after receiving a “sucker punch” from a fellow NFL player.
The AFC East side playi their first pre-season game tomorrow night at the Detroit Lions, ahead of their regular season opener at home to the Cleveland Browns on September 13.
The most interesting thing about this Geno Smith fight scenario so far – other than the NY Daily News nicknaming him “Broadway Jaw” – is that the argument with Ikemefuna Enemkpali may have been over money.
Somehow and someway, Fitzpatrick, who entered the NFL in 2005, is going to have yet another chance to start for yet another team. Richardson could face additional discipline by the league for violation of the personal conduct policy once the legal process plays out.
