Aircraft wreckage discovered, at least 1 dead
Authorities are trying to identify the victim, where the aircraft took off from and its intended destination. Several more units were ordered to the area and are investigating exactly what happened.
UPDATE 9:20: According to the Washington Department of Natural Resources, 10-12 structures were lost in Nine Mile Fire.
The Okanogan County Sheriff’s Office says it has found the wreckage of a small aircraft with at least one person dead.
Okanogan County Emergency Manager Maurice Goodall said motorists should avoid the area. Investigators are trying to determine how these fires started.
Fire-related trail and road closures are also in effect on the Idaho Panhandle National Forests.
On the Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District, the North Grizzly and Bennett Peak fires have closed several forest service roads and trails.
The crash sparked a fire that forced the evacuation of an unknown number of homes in the area, but Rogers didn’t know if any of them were destroyed. “Crews are talking to the FAA and the NTSB trying to find out about an overdue plane or what planes are missing”.
