About 150 firefighters from multiple agencies were on the scene. Ventura County fire Capt. Scott Dettorre had no immediate information on the victim’s condition or how the accident occurred.
Firefighters from Ventura and Los Angeles counties have responded, and helicopter water drops are underway.
The fire was first reported around 3:30 p.m. near the Wood Ranch neighborhood and is threatening as many as 500 homes in the area, authorities said.
California’s drought has left brush tinder-dry and high temperatures aren’t helping.
Flames erupted Friday afternoon in the Angeles National Forest near Los Angeles, where a 100-acre fire has burned a cabin and prompted campground evacuations. The Simi Valley fire was ignited when a pickup truck plunged 200 feet into a ravine. The fire was 0-percent contained as of Friday evening.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
