On Friday it was revealed that Red Sox manager John Farrell has lymphoma. Farrell will begin chemotherapy treatment on Tuesday at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He’s compiled a 372-390 managerial record over five Major League Baseball seasons – two with the Toronto Blue Jays, and almost three full seasons with the Boston Red Sox.
“There is no alternative”, Farrell told reporters.
Farrell, choking back tears as he spoke, said the discovery was made during hernia surgery in Detroit on Monday.
Bench coach Torey Lovullo will manage the team in his absence.
