Teenager dies while bungee jumping from bridge during holiday
A DUTCH TEENAGER has died while bungee jumping from a viaduct in northern Spain.
It is understood that medics attempted to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The girl, who has not yet been formally identified, was staying at a surf camp in the area with a group of friends from the Netherlands and Belgium as well as a team of mentors. The report indicates that the other teens looked on in horror as the girl fell to her death in the dry river bed below. The Local notes the jump supervisor and the owner of the company that facilitated the jump have been charged with manslaughter.
The jump took place from the top of a bridge over the A8 road at Cabezon de la Sal in Cantabria. “The girl was so young”.
This is not the first bungee jumping death in Spain this year.
In July, a 23-year-old British woman died while bungee jumping in Lanjaron, near Granada, in southern Spain.
A Civil Guard investigation pointed to criminal negligence on the part of the company organising the jump as there was only one monitor in charge of 14 participants who were invited to drink beer while awaiting their turn.
