Top Gear’s Stig moves to BBC One for new Saturday night show
The new show is set to hit our screens on Saturday evenings on BBC One in the coming months and is being billed as “funny, fast-paced and action-packed”.
Dermot O’Leary will host Getaway auto, scheduled for 12 episodes, with The Stig setting lap times for a range of top cars that will be showcased and tested in the programme.
Dermot O’Leary said: “This is a show that’s really about relationships”.
Finalists will then get to go up against The Stig and prove their racing skills.
Will the relationships between married couples, grandparents and grandchildren, siblings and best friends survive when they’re behind the wheel facing all manner of tasks?
This year has seen a huge shuffle around of some of Britain’s biggest shows – first up came Jeremy Clarkson’s removal from Top Gear, followed by an overhaul of The X Factor with new presenters and judges.
Chris Evans will be leading the new Top Gear line-up and we are still eagerly awaiting who the other two hosts will be. “It’s very exciting to welcome both Dermot O’Leary and The Stig to Saturday nights on BBC One”.
The 12-part series will air next year, and we can’t wait!
BBC Worldwide is the global distributor of The Getaway vehicle, and holds the format rights.
“The Getaway auto is an ambitious and exciting Saturday night entertainment show that enhances the BBC’s commitment to producing some of the most original entertainment formats around”, said the BBC’s Controller of Entertainment and Events Katie Taylor.
