Iron Maiden Salute Video Games in New Video ‘Speed of Light’
Mere moments ago, British heavy metal institution and all around legends Iron Maiden unveiled their first new song to hit the airwaves and speakers in five years!
It’s a fabulous video for a brilliant track, from the triumphant double album The Book of Souls, which comes out 4 September. In a statement, the band said that the clip “is a “homage” to four decades of video gaming, juxtaposed alongside Iron Maiden’s 40 years of incredible visuals centering on their talisman, Eddie, as he travels through space & time to complete his Herculean task”.
Maiden are back in 2015, and with a video as immediately memorable and iconic for future generations as this, they’ve done so with a huge amount of style.
The pizel-heavy video for “Speed of Light” takes its title nearly literally as we see the band’s eternal mascot and beloved bag’o’bones Eddie zooming through cyberspace to land in the thick of classic video games.
In a recent interview with the BBC, vocalist Bruce Dickinson addressed how his recent battle with cancerous growths on his tongue and neck affected his voice on The Book of Souls. I haven’t gone out and done the equivalent of trying to run a hundred metres in the same way that I used to sing before.
“We’re really excited about The Book Of Souls and had a fantastic time creating it”, Dickinson added. Maiden fans can download the “Speed Of Light” song when pre-ordering The Book Of Souls on iTunes.
