Embattled Gamrat to break silence on extramarital affair
Abood said Friday that Gamrat is remorseful for her conduct, but that resigning now would be “imprudent” until the House Business Office concludes an investigation into whether Courser and Gamrat entangled their personal relationship with their combined House office.
She also said she intends at this point to continue representing the 80th House district.
FOX 2’s political guru Tim Skubick says the legislature is investigating to see whether Coursea and Gamrate used any taxpayer dollars to cover up, and that means checking to see how involved their paid employees may have been.
Audio recordings obtained by the Detroit News show Courser was apparently planning to distribute a fictional email alleging he had sex with a male prostitute in order to hide his relationship with Gamrat.
Gamrat said she plans to return to work next week.
Both Courser and Gamrat are married with children.
It’s alleged Gamrat knew about the reported cover-up possibly using state resources, and an investigation is underway.
“I think she’s listening to all of the voices”, Abood said. She is listening. She’s open minded. Her husband stood at her side. We must note that it’s entirely possible that Rep. Gamrat really believes that wasn’t a request to cover things up: given her history as a Tea Party favorite she may not use the English language the way most people do.
Courser has posted statements on his web page and social media saying he and Gamrat are targets of the Lansing Republican establishment, and victims of a blackmail attempt.
“As she expects, it’s going to be a lot less damning than what everybody has suggested”, Abood told WILS.
