Luna Park Slingshot ride SNAPS with people inside at French theme park
The video recorded at the Luna Park in Cap d’Agde shows the moment the ride started as the cage containing the pair and suspended by two elastic cables is released flying up in to the air.
The incident was captured on video, and screams of terror can be heard as onlookers watch the drama unfold.
Both riders ended up dangling above the ground for more than an hour before firefighters were able to rescue them.
A female passenger was treated for a broken leg, while the second passenger, identified as the woman’s boyfriend, suffered only bruises.
The slingshot ride called the “5th Element” – also known as a “reverse bungee” – was attached to the machinery by two cords, when one came loose, flinging the attached the vehicle into the air.
For those who are already scared of amusement park rides, now might be a good time to look away.
Theme park officials blamed the accident on a “manufacturing defect” in the elastic.
The incident happened at Luna Park in southern France. The carousel will be closed as the investigation be continues, and will reopen when experts feel the solidity of the structure is sound.
