RIP Uggie! The Artist’s canine star dies
According to TMZ reports, the decision was made by his owner, Omar Von Mueller, after Uggie endured a hard few weeks with the condition.
In a submit on Fb, von Muller wrote, “We remorse to tell all our buddies, household and Uggie’s followers that our beloved boy has handed away”.
In “The Artist”, the silent film that won the best picture Oscar for 2011 (along with best actor and director), Uggie was the canine companion to Academy Award victor Jean Dujardin’s fading film star character.
He was also the first dog to have his footprints outside Grauman’s Chinese Theater in Hollywood. Von Muller, a professional animal trainer, adopted Uggie and soon after he began appearing in print ads and television commercials for dog food, cars and beer. “In short, Uggie had a cancerous tumor in the prostate and is now in a better place not feeling pain. Thank you for your support”.
Uggie was banned from Oscar nomination because he was a dog but he did win the coveted Palm Dog gong at Cannes in 2011 and the first Golden Collar award in Los Angeles.
Uggie was a rescue dog, a cause that his owner championed. Among them was Uggie, likely the most famous Jack Russell terrier since Wishbone. Before “The Artist“, Uggie appeared in the 2011 drama “Water for Elephants” alongside Reese Witherspoon.
Uggie was already a celebrity, and his schedule was a dog’s breakfast.
Uggie went into semi-retirement from acting in 2012 after being diagnosed with a neurological disorder.
Dujardin paid tribute to his canine co-star Wednesday in an Instagram post in his native French.
“The primary message that Uggie want to ship to everyone out there’s to please undertake”, Von Muller stated on the paw-print ceremony.
