Dolly Parton’s hit song Jolene to be turned into movie
Dolly Parton‘s classic song “Jolene” is set to be the next one of her tracks to be adapted into a TV movie.
According to NBC, the movie is “based on the inspiring true story of living legend Dolly Parton’s remarkable upbringing”.
“Jolene” was released in 1973 and is about a gorgeous woman who threatens to take Parton’s man. The singer reportedly said the tune was inspired by a bank clerk who flirted with her husband, Carl Dean.
Set in the Tennessee Great Smoky Mountains in 1955, Coat is intended to be a family-oriented, faith-based story about the incidents in Parton and her family’s life around the time she was 9 years old.
The surprising Parton/NBC partnership was first announced in January and it was revealed in May that the first film will be named after the song “Coat of Many Colors.” Jennifer Nettles stars as Parton’s mom, and Ricky Schroder plays her dad.
Haskell talked for a long spell about talking to NBC Entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt, and, long ago, to former NBC Entertainment chief Brandon Tarikoff, about trying to find ways to bring families to the TV to watch together, this movie’s references to the Bible, and anti-bullying message, etc.
“Excited about that!” added Parton, who appeared alongside Haskell. Like much of Parton’s earlier music, it’s an autobiographical story about a god-fearing family who manages to do just fine with very little money and a whole lot of love. It’s more than a song.
Coat is expected to debut during the holiday season.
While she has met Dolly a few times, Jennifer is looking forward to working with the country superstar to flesh out the role of Avie Lee Parton.
