A butt dial saved a Tennessee man’s life
Fortunately, he heard the Siri activation sound, which compelled him to “push up on his hip” and used the digital assistant to dial 911 and ask for help. But as Siri recently proved, even fake humans can sometimes save lives.
While struggling underneath the massive weight, Ray heard Siri activate in his pocket.
Ray called his father for advice, and then put his phone in his back pocket. According to News 2, Ray kept repeating his address until help was on its way.
Rutherford County dispatcher Christina Lee at first thought she was hearing an accidental pocket dial, which is a common occurrence.
Ray was about to give up after being under the truck for about 40 minutes when a volunteer firefighter propped up the truck with the jack. The jack that was propping up the vehicle slipped and Ray was pinned under the truck that weighed nearly 5,000 pounds.
The dispatcher was able to locate Ray’s home in a suburb of Nashville by triangulating the signal from his mobile phone.
At the moment, Sam had already removed the two front tires.
“To survive and to be able to walk out, I have a great family and friends that are willing to pray and a God that will help me”, Ray said.
After the call, Sam Ray had tried to get out from under the truck.
Flight nurse Kirk Krokosky said: “He could have been there for hours, but as fate would have it, Siri was sort of his guardian angel”.
Rick Miller, Vanderbilt’s chief of trauma and surgical care, said Sam Ray was in good condition despite suffering several broken ribs, a bruised kidney, cuts, a concussion and burns to his left arm.
“It could have been so much worse; I could be burying my son”, she said. He feels like he owes them.
