Captain America: Civil War Footage Released
Marvel revealed a generous reel of Captain America: Civil War on Saturday at D23, with first looks at Black Panther, the Falcon’s new tech and a amusing introduction between Ant Man and Captain America. “In this job, you try to save everybody you can”, he says. He can be seen dressed in an all black ensemble and a black helmet.
It shows a stuntman dressed in what appears to be Black Panther’s costume.
“Set for release in the United States on May 6, 2016, Captain America: Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo from a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely“.
Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity.
What do you think about the Black Panther’s suit?
“He’s going on a quest looking for healing, a way to recover”, Derrickson said “He meets the Ancient One, who begins helping him on the path of healing, and that turns into much more“.
Now, let’s talk about the cast a little more…
The trailer teases the deep ideological divide between Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man and Evans’ Captain America that finds the Avengers fighting one another. Two key Marvel figures who have not been announced are Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders).
The footage ended with Hawkeye opening a van, revealing Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man. The film will introduce Chadwick Boseman as potential future Avenger T’Challa/Black Panther.
Feige also previewed what’s ahead for the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the MCU heads into Phase 3. “But that being said, we’ve already designed the costume, which is different than any of the ones that have come before”.
We then see General Ross (William Hurt, reprising his role from Edward Norton’s Incredible Hulk) telling Cap how the country owes him an impossible debt, but that for some he’s not a hero now but a vigilante. Freeman has been playing the character off as a bit of a wild card. So you’re not quite sure which side he’s on. A conversation between Willson and Rogers revealed that they were looking for someone who can help them, ending with Falcon saying “I know a guy”.
This of course isn’t the first time we’ve seen footage from Captain America: Civil War, as we learned in June one of the Ant-Man credits sequences is actually material shot for Civil War.
As for the villains, Daniel Bruhl will play Baron Helmut Zemo, and Frank Grillo returns as Crossbones. Alas, while a decent amount of Civil War footage was screened for those in attendance, Spider-Man was nowhere to be found. And Twitter lamented, as only Twitter can: Harsh!
