UFC 194 books Champ Chris Weidman vs. Luke Rockhold
It was announced in the early hours of Friday morning that Chris Weidman will defend his middleweight strap against Luke Rockhold in the co-main event of the huge card on December 12th.
Weidman, from Baldwin, is coming off his third title defense.
As for Rockhold, the final Strikeforce Middleweight Champion has rebounded fantastically since a UFC debut loss to Belfort. The 31-year-old New Yorker overcame Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort following his rematch against Silva, which ended when the Brazilian fractured his leg in the second round.
He will be looking to defend his title for the fourth consecutive time after winning the title from Anderson Silva at UFC 162 in July 2013.
“Weidman is slow, he kicks like Michael Bisping, he’s not gonna be able to keep up with me”. But for UFC 194, the featherweights Aldo and McGregor will get their names in the bigger font size.
One thing all three of those fighters have in common though is that they are all in the later stages of their careers, while Weidman’s next opponent, Rockhold, is in a similar position as the champion, still being in his prime at the age of 30.
Will Chris Weidman’s next fight be his last as the UFC middleweight champion now that Luke Rockhold has his eyes on the belt?
UFC 194 hits Las Vegas on December 12, airing live on pay-per-view.
