NFL Preseason Scores (Week 1, Day 1)

The Dallas Cowboys and San Diego Chargers are set to play in an actual game for the first time in seven months. We drove the ball pretty well.

On the first drive of the game, the Cowboys were marching under the guidance of backup quarterback Brandon Weeden (Tony Romo never saw the field).

San Diego is one of the sexy picks to potentially make a Super Bowl run this season.

Emanuel’s pass-coverage ability wasn’t tested much, but if he can make a consistent impact on special teams and get to the passer when playing on defense, he’ll find himself a solid place on this Chargers team. Anyone who was slightly banged up should have been sitting, and I commend Coach Garrett for his decision to play it safe with the guys who have various injuries.

Doug Free missed 5 games last year, and it’s fair to assume he’ll miss some time this year as well. In their absence, we’ll see a lot of the second and third teams. There are some off the field concerns with Johnson as well, but I think Dallas would rather take a chance with Johnson and his issues rather than Rice and his. The Cowboys made it to the NFC Divisional Round last season and probably should have beaten the Packers, except for a rule. I feel really good.

Quarterback Philip Rivers will take the field as he tries to develop chemistry with new wide receivers Stevie Johnson and Jacoby Jones. “So, I can’t say that’s an advantage anymore”. He was serviceable, but there were times when I thought he rushed and tried to get rid of the ball faster than he needed too. Due to injuries, Darren McFadden, Joseph Randle, and Lance Dunbar didn’t see any action, so the Cowboys were looking for a spark from some talented young backs.

I don’t understand how the Spanos family, who has benefited so greatly from being and living in the San Diego community all these years would suddenly sell out and go to L.A.

SAN DIEGO – Even though Randy Gregory was able to come up with a sack in Thursday’s preseason opener against the San Diego Chargers, he couldn’t help but think of the ones that got away.
