Corduroy, 26, Crowned The World’s Oldest Living Cat
The world’s oldest living cat is once again Corduroy, a 26-year-old tabby born in the 1980s who was briefly dethroned of his title.
Born on August 1 1989, Corduroy and his owner Ashley Reed Okura (USA) have been companions since he was a tiny kitten and she was just seven years old.
Previous record holder Tiffany Two was 26 when she died on June 3, according to Guinness World Record Officials.
Corduroy lives in the rural community of Sisters, Oregon, about 100 miles (160 km) southeast of Portland, and spends plenty of time outside, the organization said in a statement.
Considering domesticated cats have a lifespan of 15 years, Corduroy is exceeding expectations.
“I allowed Corduroy to roam the ranch freely, so he always got lots of exercise”, she said in a Guinness statement. Too bad cats can’t talk, or we’d ask him the secret to his longevity.
Corduroy lost his record-winning title for eldest cat in 2014 when Tiffany Two swatted it away, beating him at an impressive 27 years, 2 months, and 20 days old.
The elderly cat has a long way to go if he wants the title of oldest cat ever to live. He comes from a family of good genes, including his brother, Batman, who lived to the ripe old age of 19. Guinness says Creme Puff, who died in 2005, was 38 years old.
In the video below, posted to the Guinness World Records Youtube channel, you can learn a bit more about Corduroy and see him in action. According to Google.com, “average cat death age” is 10-14 years.
