Jordan Spieth Birdies Last Three Holes At PGA Championship

Australia’s Matt Jones completed a bogey-free seven-under-par 65 on Saturday to take a two-stroke lead on 11-under 133 as the second round concluded at the 97th PGA Championship.

But Lingmerth’s prediction that he’d be caught proved true, and Australians Jason Day and Matt Jones were both at nine-under on the course when thunderstorms swept across Whistling Straits on Friday evening, halting play for the day.

England’s Justin Rose completed a five-under par round of 67 to move into third place ahead of a group on seven-under-par which includes Sweden’s David Lingmerth.

Play resumed Saturday morning at the 97th PGA Championship but Tiger Woods won’t be moving on to the third round.

It only gave Tiger Woods a chance to get home to Florida this afternoon. He now has missed the cut in three straight majors and four of his past five.

Jones, who teed off on 10 on Friday, moved to 10 under with a birdie at the sixth, and padded his lead with a 50-foot birdie bomb at the eighth.

Jones was at 11-under 133. In two hours Saturday morning, the final major of the year set the stage for what traditionally is moving day.

“I’m in a good position, obviously”.

At two under for the championship, Lee is tied for 44th, 13 shots behind the leader Jason Day. “But I’m going to have fun with it, and I’m pretty relaxed on the golf course“, he told the PGA Tour website. Dustin Johnson, the 18-hole leader, took a brief lead at 8 under until he ran into trouble on the par-5 11th with a wicked lie in the bunker that led to bogey. Once he gets his first one, just like Phil (Mickelson).

And the 22-year-old can also replace Rory McIlroy as world No 1 with a victory if the latter, nine off the lead after a 68, does not finish outright second.

Woods caused a stir on Friday when he committed to the Wyndham Championship next week in North Carolina, a tournament he has never played. He is now ranked 186th in the FedEx Cup standings and needs to be among the top 125 to qualify for the playoffs.

McIlroy insisted he will still be in the hunt to retain his US PGA title if he rediscovers his best form over the weekend at Whistling Straits.
