Carson deputy, battery suspect dead in shoot-out
A Nevada sheriff’s deputy was gunned down early Saturday while responding to a domestic violence call, officials said.
At 2:18 a.m., the Carson City Sheriff’s Office responded to that call in the 4100 Block of Montez Drive in East Carson City. On their way to the scene, deputies found an injured woman. When deputies arrived, a man walked out of the house and opened fire. They ranged in age from eight to 13. KTVN-TV reported that it’s unclear right now how the suspect died. Another deputy described him as “a father, a friend and a good cop”. The investigation had been turned over to the Reno Police Department.
Details about the officer and the suspect were not immediately released.
‘It’s a ripple that’s kind of hit all of us very, very hard, ‘ he said Saturday from Carson City, where he was with sheriff’s deputies, including the slain deputy’s former partner.
The Deputy Sheriff who was killed has not been identified.
The agency reports four total law enforcement deaths in the line of duty, the last being Deputy Sheriff Daniel McDaniel in 1963 as a result of an auto accident, according to the Officer Down Memorial Page website. A woman was found at the scene with injuries, the release said.
“The Nevada family lost one of its finest public servants today”.
