Sandra Bullock rocks ‘Minions’ heels for charity at Los Angeles premiere
But when asked about her decision to join the cast of “Minions”, she couldn’t have responded quicker. Towards the end I kind of stepped up my game a little bit.
When reminded how many times she said her son made her watch “Despicable Me”, she said, “I hadn’t even thought of that until you brought that up”.
BRIAN LYNCH (Hop, Puss in Boots) wrote the screenplay, and CHRIS RENAUD (Despicable Me series, Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax) serves as executive producer of the film.
Wildly successful children’s films used to yield sequels; now they yield spin-offs.
Unfortunately, these masters die prematurely – at the hands of the clumsy, yellow hench-creatures – leaving the Minions in a state of deep depression.
It’ll also be Pierre Coffin’s third time in charge and sixth stint as the Minions’ voice artist, with the adventurous Kevin, Stuart and Bob sent to find a worthy villain to command their leaderless brethren.
Sandra Bullock plays arch baddie Scarlet Overkill in new Despicable Me spin-off Minions.
The banana-loving band of brothers enjoy causing chaos and are always on the lookout for villains to serve, so the ultra-glamorous Scarlet enlists them as her henchmen and tasks them with helping her snatch power from Queen Elizabeth (Saunders). “As an actor, being a villain is a great thing”. “People go, ‘Your adopted son, ’ and I go, ‘Please do not say that”. So I would say that was what really got it started.
Flanked by Stuart and scaredy-cat Bob, Kevin leaves the Minions’ ice cave retreat bound for 1968 New York City. “When we decided to differentiate these three characters and track them, we realized how to make our heroes very distinct and show what each of them are thinking and feeling through their pantomime and sounds”. It’s accidental. They have such sweetness and good will. And we all understand them.
But “Minions” is arguably the biggest new family animation for a long while, and in those terms reaching an “Inside Out” level of professional and audience accolade might not matter so much.
