Clinton Njie: ‘Playing in Premier League will be a big challenge’
“We are delighted to announce the signing of Clinton Njie from Olympique Lyonnais, subject to global clearance and the player receiving a work permit”, Spurs announced on their website.
The Cameroon global has agreed a five-year deal at White Hart Lane on his 22nd birthday, following Friday’s sale of Roberto Soldado to Villarreal.
Given N’Jie’s successful global career, these should be mostly a matter of paperwork.
Njie is Spurs’ fourth signing of the transfer window, following the arrivals of defenders Kevin Wimmer, Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld.
With Roberto Soldado moving to Villareal over the last 48 hours or so, Spurs’ hunt for a striker intensified and they opted to press on and complete a deal for the 22 year-old Cameroon worldwide.
“I’m still young, still growing up and it’s a big challenge – the Premier League is one of the biggest leagues in the world”, the 22-year-old said. Like I said, I’m still learning and I’m here to give my best.
A quick scour of his stats tells us that he scored seven goals in 30 appearances for Lyon last season, with an overall haul of just eight goals in 43 apps for the Ligue 1 side.
“I’ve always loved playing football and it’s always been my dream to play professional football so when I had my chance, I had to grab it”, he added.
