Gas prices fall to average $2.59 per gallon in Rhode Island
Americans planning to drive more this month. Checking in with the east coast, the Boston Globe reported a projected six cent drop for drivers in Massachusetts heading into the month of August.

When it comes to gas prices, experts say that what goes up quickly tends to come down slowly. In Georgia, motorists were paying Monday an average of $2.449, down 4.8 cents from last week and a drop of 90.7 cents from previous year.
The price was $2.52 four weeks ago and $3.24 a year ago.
Gregg Laskoski, another senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, added that the gasoline price hikes seen earlier in the summer were due to the extraordinary price spikes in California, which inflated the national average.
“It feels good to see gas prices drop during the middle of the busy summer driving season”, said Avery Ash, AAA spokesman.
That’s in contrast with the national average, which is down 6.6 cents per gallon to $2.596.
Some gas stations around the Twin Cities are coming in as low as $2.33 a gallon.
There’s another reason to expect lower prices.
In the fall, gasoline production slows in the U.S.as oil refineries undergo maintenance.
For the Inland area, prices were down about 35 cents a gallon from July 27, but still have not recovered from the sharp July increase.
The monthly average price of crude oil now accounts for approximately 40 percent of the price consumers pay at the pump, and with West Texas Intermediate posting its sixth consecutive week of losses, pump prices are likely to post notable declines leading up to the Labor Day holiday, AAA reports.
