Powdered Alcohol Sales Now Banned in New York
The sale of powdered or crystalline alcohol product, also known as “palcohol”, has been prohibited by law in New York state.
Palcohol’s website refers to the powder mix as “safer than liquid alcohol”, and all consumers have to do is mix the 1 ounce packets with 6 ounces of water.
New York is now the most populous state to do so. Officials say the use of powdered alcohol could lead to individuals, especially teens, ingesting unsafe amounts of alcohol.
“I am proud to sign this legislation that will keep powdered alcohol off the shelves and out of the wrong hands”, Cuomo said in a statement.
Sen. Joseph Griffo, R-Rome, subsidized the invoice to prohibit selling crushed alcoholic drinks.
By now making it illegal to sell powdered alcohol in the state of New York, this law signed today gives us that rare proactive opportunity to avoid exposing our most vulnerable to one more substance that could have a detrimental impact on their lives.
Looks like Governor Cuomo wants New Yorkers to stick to popping bottles.
The state’s ban was lauded Friday by U.S. Sen.
Supporters of the ban say Palcohol, which is sold in bags, is easier to hide and carry around than the liquid beverage.
The Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau approved Palcohol earlier this year.
