Challenge stops confederate statue move at Univ. of Texas
The president of the University of Texas has ordered removal of the statue of Davis from the center of campus, but statues of other Confederate figures will stay.

The University of Texas-Austin announced Friday that it would be postponing the move of the Jefferson Davis statue due to a restraining order requested by The Sons of Confederate Veterans.
Susswein said the university is confident it will be able to move forward with the matter. The Davis statue has been targeted by vandals and had come under increasing criticism.
According to the Daily Caller, the panel also collected input from almost 3,000 individuals, who were split between leaving the statues in place, moving them, or just removing the statue of Jefferson Davis.
At this time, the other statues related to the Confederate States of America are not going to be moved, as previously reported by Breitbart Texas.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans filed a restraining order Friday to delay the moving the statue through the weekend, at least, as a judge has yet to return a decision, The Associated Press reported.
“We are confident we will move ahead with these plans”, Susswein said.
In court filings, the Sons of Confederate Veterans argue that the [Charleston] South Carolina shooting set off “orchestrated national hysteria and pressure” to remove Confederate symbols.
“Universities have the discretion under state law to relocate statues on their campuses”, Susswein said.
Davis served as president of the Confederate states during the Civil War.
I have been writing ever since I can remember, but that is because school made me do so against my will. Today here I am, standing strong because my mentors could see my flair which had undoubtedly mirrored in my school papers and the essays that never failed to amaze them. The student government adopted a resolution in March supporting the statue being removed entirely. “James Stephen Hogg, Albert Sidney Johnston, and John Reagan had deep ties to Texas”, UT President Gregory Fenves wrote in a letter addressed to the UT community.
