Canine actor in ‘The Artist’ dies at 13

His owner, professional trainer Omar Von Muller, adopted Uggie in 2002 just as he was about to be sent to a dog pound after several owners rejected him for being too wild. After battling prostate cancer for some time, he was quietly put to sleep on August 7th at the age of 13.

Uggie, the Jack Russell rescue dog who became a Hollywood star for his scene-stealing role in the Oscar-winning movie The Artist, has died.

Uggie wasn’t eligible to win an Oscar but did receive the Palm Dog gong at Cannes in 2011.

“We remorse to let you know to our buddies, family member and Uggie’s blowers that almost all of our cherished man dies”, Uggie’s proprietor and instructor Omar Von Muller said in a Facebook advertising. We were not planning on posting anything until we healed a little more but unfortunately somebody leaked it to TMZ and they will be announcing it. In short, Uggie had a cancerous tumor in the prostate and is now in a better place not feeling pain.

Uggie’s other film credits include roles in “Key and Peele” and “Water for Elephants“.

The dog achieved one of Hollywood’s top honors – his four paw prints are embedded in the hallowed Walk of Fame.

In October 2012, he published an autobiography called Uggie – My Story, in which he expressed his sadness at losing a part in Beginners to fellow canine thespian Cosmo.

Dujardin paid tribute to his canine co-star Wednesday in an Instagram post in his native French. “Affectionate thoughts for my exceptional partner”.
