Veteran WR Steve Smith Sr. To Retire After 2015 NFL Season
The 36-year-old signed a three-year, $10.5 million contract with the Ravens before the 2014 season after being cut by the Carolina Panthers. What does make Webb noteworthy, however, is the peace offering he received from Smith the very next day.
Steve Smith announced Monday that one of the all-time great receiving careers will be coming to an end after this season. Smith may not be quite a Hall of Famer, but he would be a first ballot if one of the requirements was being the angriest, toughest player on the field at any given time.
“I’m retired after this”, Smith, 36, said after practice Monday, explaining his game plan after this season was to “go home” and “be dad”. I would have to give up something. Undersized but ultracompetitive, he has 915 career receptions, 13,262 receiving yards and 73 touchdown catches in 13 excellent years with the Carolina Panthers and last season for the Ravens. When asked which of his teammates he would least like to fight in a dark alley, Smith said he would pick any one of his teammates, including guard Marshal Yanda. The two wrestled on the ground for a few moments as some other players piled on. The dust-ups continued in Baltimore, with Smith taking swings at fellow Ravens in practice. The Minnesota Vikings won, 14-3.
It took six quarters for the visiting Carolina Panthers to defeat the St. Louis Rams 29-23 in the Divisional Playoffs of the 2003 season. So, the Ravens’ chief rival in the AFC North is trying out kickers Tuesday – including ex-Ravens kickers Billy Cundiff and Shayne Graham, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He had to let this become Cam Newton’s team.
Assistant coach Jim Turner was fired five days after Wells released a report on his investigation in early 2014. He seeks damages in an amount to be determined at trial. I don’t want to be the guy who stands in the way of his dream, going to the Super Bowl. Looking back over the years, there’s a lot of things he’s missed out on, obviously not because he chose that but just because of his job and his line of work. He doesn’t want to hold on too long and leave on his own power. He has one last shot to get that elusive ring, and he’s on a team that is certainly capable of winning it all this season.
