Dearborn Democratic Club announces support for Iran Deal
They are the victims of Iranian terrorism, and now they’re speaking out against President Obama’s Iranian nuclear agreement.
Officials in the Obama administration meanwhile have said that the president could use executive authority to stop “many U.S. sanctions on Iran” if Congress moves to thwart the deal in its current iteration, reported Politico.
“As written, this agreement gives Iran leverage it now doesn’t have”, Flake said. Iran’s hard-line clerics have called for death to Israel and the West, and are dedicated supporters of extremist groups wreaking terror in the other regions of the Middle East, critics say.
Kerry added that similar United Nations restrictions banned arms sales to the Houthis in Yemen, North Korea and other potential recipients of weapons from Iran. He says he came to that decision after personally reading the proposed agreement, talking with experts, and listening to Montanans.
Martin said that “President Obama would be lucky to get 20 – at max to 25 – votes on the Democratic side, [but] he’s not going to get any Republican votes, [while] he needs 34 votes, he’s far short”.
Assuming all Republicans vote against the deal, they will need 13 Democrats to join them in the Senate to override an assured presidential veto on the measure of disapproval.
The deal has been publicly and vocally opposed by many members of the US Congress as well as by Israel, and has raised concerns among US allies in the Gulf. They argue Iran will receive a financial windfall when sanctions lapse, and the country will still be on the cusp of building a nuclear weapon. We’d have to cut off countries like China from the American financial system. But he believes the agreement is critical because the Iranians are within two or three months of developing nuclear weapons capability on their own. In contrast, New York’s Charles Schumer, the No. 3 Democrat in the U.S. Senate, after long and careful consideration of the deal, has delivered a thoughtful, balanced and respectful appraisal of what he considers its unacceptable flaws. The deal also provides that an inspection of a suspected nuclear site would take place within 24 days.
“This codifies Iran being a threshold nuclear state after 10 years“, Senator Schumer told media.
The White House’s behavior is especially disappointing given the way the negotiations unfolded.
“The deal signed with Iran is a very bad deal, in my view”.
As part of the deal, the global Atomic Energy Agency will have to verify that Iran does indeed scale down its facilities, clearing a path towards ending UN, US and EU sanctions. He said “undercutting this agreement unilaterally by the United States is about a high-risk strategy as I can imagine”.
