All-rounder Binny to join Indian team before second Test
India performed 5 specialist bowlers within the 1st Test – with Harbhajan Singh and Varun Aaron not being as efficient as their captain would have favored. No official word has been given on the reason why he is joining.
While the P Sara Oval wicket is traditionally known for being firm and even bounce in nature, Binny who is more of a batting all-rounder can fill in the fifth bowler’s slot and can also be a reasonably dependable No 7.
India cricket team has called all-rounder Stuart Binny to the squad for the second Test against Sri Lanka that will begin in Colombo from August 20.
However, the board didn’t inform about any injury and Binny will be the 16th member of the side.
It comes as a surprise because there have been no fresh injury concerns with the players in the squad, but it has been learnt that Binny is just an addition. They were chasing 176 in the fourth innings but were bowled out for 112 on the fourth day on Saturday.
India trail 0-1 in the series after losing the first Test in Galle by 63 runs following a dramatic batting collapse.
India at one stage looked like winning the Test in three days but Sri Lanka staged a brilliant comeback through Dinesh Chandimal’s 162* and then Rangana Herath’s 7 for 48 to win the match inside four days.
