Kill Agrees To Contract Extension
They’ve finished 8-5 the last two seasons, though.
Kill’s new deal is expected to include a salary increase of about $300,000 this season, which boosts his annual salary to $2.5 million.
A great deal of confidence has been shown in Kill’s ability to lead, but now it’s time for him to take Minnesota to the next level on the heels of consecutive winning seasons.
Jerry Kill has the Minnesota football program going in a pretty great direction, and the school has rewarded him for his rapid turnaround job.
The University of Minnesota extended the contract of football coach Jerry Kill one more year, locking Kill in through the 2019 season.
“It makes you more relaxed so you can coach”, Kill said.
Big Ten Network analyst Gerry DiNardo said Minnesota’s steady improvement under Kill is the top reason for a raise and added year. “We have had a lot of support here and felt like it was the right thing to do”.
Kill starts his fifth year on the job with a 25-26 record that includes losses in three bowl games.
“I am excited about it and am very appreciative of everybody”, Kill told the media after Friday’s practice.
In the past two seasons, the Gophers have played for the Big Ten West Division title and lost to arch-rival Wisconsin.
Kill, who was named Big Ten Coach of the Year by the conference’s coaches and media last season, last year guided Minnesota to wins against Michigan and Iowa for the first time in the same season since 1967.
According to Kill’s new contract, a total of $175,000 will be divided among his nine assistant coaches, who will make a combined $3.053 million.
