Area deputy shot, listed in stable condition
A Hillsborough deputy who was shot at and wounded Thursday, saved a woman’s life with two other deputies in July, according to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities say they are following up on leads and have questioned multiple people, although there has been no arrests.
Ranney was shot in the leg after responding to a call about shots fired in the area of Greystone Road in Thonotosassa around 12:30 a.m. The shooting kicked off an intensive search in the area.
The deputy was taken to a local hospital and is now listed as being in stable condition.
Deputy Scott Ranney, 42, a six-year veteran of the agency, has been released from Tampa General Hospital after he was treated for a gunshot wound to his leg, the sheriff’s office said. They are not sure if the suspect was shot.
K9 units and helicopters were on the search for the suspect early Thursday morning.
Sheriff David Gee said he is very grateful for the community support that has been received after the incident.
Catherine Fleming, 53, of Tampa was killed at the scene when her auto was struck by a wrong-way SUV and another vehicle, deputies said. Roads are closed in the area and residents were asked to report any suspicious activity or persons to the Sheriff’s Office.
