Njie close to £13m Tottenham transfer
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy asked technical director Franco Baldini to help seal a move for Clinton N’Jie – despite the Italian’s imminent exit. West Ham United are also keen but Tottenham would prefer not to sell to their local rivals.
Spurs have already started their clear-out, with Paulinho, Benjamin Stambouli, Etienne Capoue, Vlad Chiriches and Younes Kaboul all leaving.
Spurs are understood to be in talks with Lyon regarding the 21-year-old, with the wide-man seemingly a player Mauricio Pochettino admires.
If his move is completed in time, he may be able to feature for Spurs in their Premier League encounter against Stoke City at White Hart Lane this coming weekend.
But Spurs are willing to leave it late to swoop as they need to offload Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado first. He is direct and has an eye for goal; he could provide ideal support for Harry Kane or act as an alternative depending on the circumstances.
“We’ll take each game as it comes and we’re going to work hard, put our all into it and do as well as we can.” The fee paid for the 25-year old striker was a club record £12 million.
“Sometimes you have five strikers, like Liverpool last season, and they were sixth”, said the Argentinean.
Tottenham and Lyon are yet to confirm the deal, but it is not expected to be far off.
“I can’t wait to play my first game here because I am feeling really fit”, he said. “The sums involved are considerable for a young player like Clinton”, Fournier told Ligue 1’s official website.
