Clemson LB Wiggins out for season with torn ligament
This is not good news for Tiger fans as Wiggins was the primary starter at the nickel back position last season and played solid in his time on the field.
Clemson said Wiggins suffered a torn ACL during practice on Wednesday morning.
Wiggins sustained the injury while trying to recover a fumble during a situational scrimmage in Memorial Stadium.
He was at his best late in the season, with both interceptions coming in the last three games.
He had 40 tackles and two interceptions last year, emerging as a key player on the Tigers’ No. 1-rated defense.
Wiggins, a native of Durham, N.C., finished 2014 on a strong note with a team-high six tackles and a seven-yard interception return against Oklahoma in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Now with Korrin Wiggins sidelined, we may get to find out if Swinney’s confidence is well placed.
Clemson also announced two other less-serious injuries suffered Wednesday with starting receiver Mike Williams pulling his hamstring and backup offensive lineman Daniel Stone spraining his ankle. He should be able to receive a redshirt this season, which will give him two more years of eligibility with the Clemson football team.
