Dell announces ‘Chromebook 13’ laptop for business users
But the Pixels succeeded in their mission to influence more mainstream Chromebooks, said Rajen Sheth, leader of Google’s work to push Chrome OS in businesses and schools, in an interview here at Google headquarters. The Dell Chromebook 13 is also going to be pretty light, around 2.3 pounds, and will have an FHD IPS display as well as a touch screen model. “We’re excited by its potential and look forward to seeing it come to market”. With seamless connectivity, fast boot time and high performance, users can be fully productive wherever they are. There’s also a 720p webcam built in for HD video chats and a battery that Dell claims will last for 12 hours off a single charge. Moreover, it describes the Chromebook as a high-end-looking laptop with a slick glass trackpad that clicks nicely, a palm rest made of magnesium alloy, a back panel that features carbon fiber weave and aluminum bottom. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass, and can be outfitted with an anti-glare coating. The backlit keyboard and precision touchpad provide an ideal balance of usability and maximum accuracy, constructed to meet the needs of the mobile workforce.
Accompanying it would be Chrome for Work, ensuring that users will be able to enjoy manageability and security software and applications, which in turn enables it to fit seamlessly into any professional computing environment. It’s also VPN-compatible, which Dell is hoping will solve the problem of the occasional legacy program not being available as a browser app. Lastly, it’s eligible for Dell ProSupport which includes up to four years of coverage, with options like on-site service. The Dell Chromebook 13 is to launch this September 17th at $399.
The simplified IT management structure of the ChromeOS is how Google sold these systems from the beginning, and while it isn’t flawless, it’s still a hell of a lot easier (and less expensive) to manage a Chromebook fleet rather than a swathe of Windows beige boxes and laptops.
Google is gunning for the corporate market with a Dell Chromebook 13 laptop, meant to appeal to office workers and information technology employees alike. The Dell Chromebook 13 has a 13.3-inch touchscreen with an Intel processor – and can cost as much as $900. The most important customers, however, seem to be institutions.
