5 tips to navigate the Chicago Air and Water Show
Video captured from the scene at North Avenue Beach shows the parachutist holding up a “hang ten” to everyone on the beach as he was escorted away.
The Golden Knight was in serious condition, said Donna Dixon, the public affairs officer for the Golden Knights team. No other details have been released.
Fire officials say two parachutists have been hospitalized for injuries during the Chicago Air & Water Show.
‘His legs caught the tip of the roof, and then he fell over.
The two men were injured at about 11 a.m. Connecticut (12 a.m. EDT) during the Chicago Air & Water Show, the newspaper said, citing Chicago Fire Department Deputy Chief Julie Coy.
The incident occurred as about 13 parachutists from both teams were doing a “bomb-burst procedure”, with red smoke trails behind them, according to Dixon, who said they had just separated from a circle formation. She said at first she thought it was a dummy because his body was limp.
WBBM-TV reports that one of the performers is with the U.S. Navy’s Leap Frogs team. She said the man, whose age was not known, has a broken lower leg. He’s based in Coronado, California.
Precision military parachute jumpers like the Leap Frogs and Golden Knights typically jump from their aircraft at 12,500 feet, fall at speeds of 120 to 180 miles per hour, and deploy their parachutes at about 5,000 feet, after which they dazzle the crowds with precision maneuvers on their way to the ground.
The other man is a member of the Navy Leap Frogs.
“The only thing I found unusual was that two guys were hanging onto each other in the air”, Carr said.
The free event is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday.
