Intern uses science to get an 86% bigger burrito at Chipotle
If you really want to maximize burrito weight, asking for both kinds gets you 92% more beans (another note: “we aren’t responsible for the gas you’ll be having afterwards)”.
Dylan Grosz wanted more bang for his buck at Chipotle, and he finally figured out the trick! With each order, he meticulously separated and measured out the ingredients, methodically discovering how to pack the most Chipotle ingredients into one order.
Looking to beef up your next Chipotle burrito?
After testing 35 orders of the same basic burrito over the course of two weeks, an intern at the real estate site, Apartment List, came up with a foolproof, scientifically-tested way to get the most out of your order.
Requesting to go half-and-half on everything should theoretically result in an identical sized burrito or burrito bowl (that preference is a debate we won’t get into) made up of smaller portions of more ingredients.
Doubling up is key to Grosz’s menu hacks. Both. Boom. According to Grosz’ figures that’s 93% more rice you’re getting. Ask for them at the end when the servers are so annoyed with you that they’ll give you anything to get you out of the line. It increases the total weight by 16 percent.
The change is expected to be an increase of between 4 and 6 percent. Plus, tortillas are delicious as a snack by themselves, so just eat your bowl and then take the tortilla with you. For example, he asked for half pinto beans and half black beans. If that’s still not enough for you, go ahead and ask for the fajita veggie mix, and corn salsa, which should add a solid 15% to the mass of your now overstuffed burrito. This increase in meat grows the burrito’s weight by 9 percent.
In explaining his methodology, the intern says, “The control burrito I compared everything to was a white rice, black beans, chicken, mild salsa, and cheese burrito”. Well, Dylan Grosz had this problem too, and clearly decided there would be no more.
