Firefighters continues to battle US wildfires

Approximately 300 firefighters are assigned, and more are anticipated to arrive to assist with the Canyon Creek Complex. By Sunday, it was 25% contained, KTVB-TV reported. Cooler weather on Saturday meant that fire growth was subdued.
“We’re able to start taking the battle to the fire rather than playing defense”, Patterson said.
Fire crews across the Northwest were hoping to secure lines around other wildfires burning in Idaho and Oregon.
As of 8:00 a.m., August 14, 2015, the Lawyer Complex Fire has burned almost 12,000 acres near Kamiah, Idaho.
Firefighters were mopping up a 189-acre fire that erupted Friday in Simi Valley, northwest of Los Angeles.
The fire reportedly grew to the north briefly Friday, reaching Six Mile Canyon, and then pushed southwest to Posthole Canyon and southeast towards Mohler, eventually crossing Highway 162, according to InciWeb.
~ An uncontained fire near the Yakima Indian Reservation had charred some 28 square miles. Family members said the man collapsed after he went back into the fire zone to move his farm equipment to a safer place.
The interstate was also closed for several hours Thursday as some residents were forced to immediately evacuate.

Over in Tonasket Ranger District, four wildfires are burning, and some residents in the Silver Hill and Scotch Hill areas have been told to prepare to evacuate of necessary.

UPDATED 6:45 P.M.: Mandatory evacuations have been issued for the area east of the Clearwater River at Kamiah.
Temperatures have been relatively mild, but gusty winds and dry conditions have stoked the flames of the fire near Lower Lake.
Meanwhile, the Oregon Department of Forestry said at least 26 homes were destroyed by a lightning-caused complex of fires burning south of John Day. We’re picking up spot fires from lightning. It’s not yet clear how much livestock has been caught in the fires.
Idaho’s governor declared a state of emergency in parts of the state, government fire-monitoring agency Inciweb reported. Fire behavior was cooperative on the north end of the fire Saturday, as crews continued to fight its northern progression. Fire officials are asking the public not to stop along Highway 93 to view the fire.
