Body of missing Oceanside man found
76-year-old Nickolaos Christidis has been missing for more than three weeks.
Authorities say a body found in the Southern California high desert was that of a San Diego County man who was reported missing almost a month ago.
On Wednesday, about a mile and a half away from the remains, officials found Christidis’ auto abandoned in a field.
The auto was found in soft sand in an area not visible from the road. Christidis, however, was not inside. NBC 7’s Dave Summers reports. The vehicle was located by a deputy on patrol, Cosby said.
The body of a missing man from Oceanside has been found in a remote area north of Los Angeles, according to Oceanside Police Department.
Sgt. Jimenez said deputies, police officers and search and rescue crews had been in the desert area surrounding Lake Los Angeles for the past two days searching for Christidis.
His body was found during an excessive heat warning issued by the National Weather Service, and temperatures in the Lake Los Angeles area soared past 100 degrees on Saturday.
Police said the last confirmed sighting of the man was on July 23 in Rosamund.
An Oceanside Police statement on Saturday said the investigation had uncovered no signs of foul play.
Christidis was last seen by his family on July 22 in Oceanside, police said.
She laid down take a nap.
But by 10:35 a.m., he had not yet returned, so his daughter gave him a call.
When his daughter attempted to call him later that evening, he did not answer his cellphone. When he still hadn’t returned, she tried calling him at 4 p.m. but the phone went straight to voice mail. Previously, he got lost and ended up in Arizona.
Christidis reportedly suffered from dementia, according to a statement by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
