Final Fantasy VII: Re-Imagined Demo Available; Cloud Slashes Side Scrolling Style
Square Enix aren’t the only ones remaking Final Fantasy 7.
In the demo, you can play as Cloud or Tifa, with Barret available as fire support on a timed recharge system, so you can call him in from time to time. The studio’s making this as a fan project, so it has no plans to profit from the endeavour – but with a real Final Fantasy VII Remake on the horizon, we’re not convinced that the company’s going to look too kindly upon this. However, since the game is free and has been “done purely for fun”, as the creators state, it’s possible that the developer could be protected under the defense of fair use.
Players’ attacks will be enhanced by the Materia they’ve equipped. And when the freeze ends, an extra damage is dealt to the enemies. Like in the original, players will be able to upgrade their Materia, as well as the playable character move sets. It’s definitely not the remake fans were looking forward to just yet, but it gives a taste of how the game would be reimagined, as if it was released back in the 90s, but not as a role-playing title. Hopefully that disclaimer’s enough to keep lawyers from shutting the game down.
PD Design Studio has a few ideas of features to add if Final Fantasy VII: Re-Imagined were a full game, but stated that they’re nearly done with this project on their Facebook page.
