Race car driver killed in crash at Pennsylvania speedway
Officials at Williams Grove Speedway have cancelled races for Saturday night following a fatal a accident at the Monroe Township track on Friday evening.
Campbell was from Feasterville, north of Philadelphia and about a two hours’ drive east of the track, located in the center of the state.
WHP in Harrisburg reports that a crew member said Campbell appeared to have medical issues before the accident. “We’re not going to do an autopsy”.
A news release from the speedway read: “The staff and management of Williams Grove Speedway express and extend honest sympathy to the Campbell family at this hard time”.
Additional details about the crash were not clear.
The department’s chief, Scott McClintock, said they have a contract with Williams Grove to be at races. Witnesses told area television station WHTM that the auto burst into flames after striking the outer wall and a second vehicle struck it and flipped over.
The organization had been scheduled to host a “Kids Night” promotion and a Saturday racing series, which were canceled. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
