Western Kentucky Boy Killed In Accident On Soccer Field
A 17-year-old high school football player in western Kentucky was killed when a heavy piece of metal equipment struck him, police said on Friday.
Hopkinsville police say 17-year-old Jayvon Corey Quarles of Hopkinsville died Thursday because of blunt pressure trauma to his head.
Madisonville High passed a helmet at a scrimmage Friday night and raised $1,200 for Quarles family.
Jayvon was going into his senior year at Hopkinsville High.
Meanwhile, Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Keith Tandy was excused from the team’s preseason game in order to return home to Hopksinville to mourn the loss of Quarles, his nephew.
“We just wanted to show the City of Hopkinsville, the school, that we understand, that our hearts are filled with mourning and that we’re behind them”, said Board. The team will still open the 2015 regular season August. 21.
