Erawan Shrine: Huge explosion rocks central Bangkok near tourist attraction

Bangkok is in chaos following a blast that took at least 12 lives and injured at least 20 other people.

The explosion, in the Rachaprasong intersection of central Bangkok, was confirmed by local police to be set off by a bomb. An AFP reporter indicates two people were killed in the blast which happened at a time traffic is especially heavy in the area.

A huge explosion rocked Bangkok’s commercial hub on Monday evening (Aug 17).

Nearby offices have reportedly been evacuated, according to reports on social media.

‘I can confirm it was a bomb, we can’t tell which kind yet, we are checking, ‘ national police spokesman Lietenant General Prawut Thavornsiri told AFP.
